Farewell

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I announce that I cease all development and activity in the programming universe indefinitely. My career has reached the turning point I was not expecting for at least another year, leaving me highly off guard and without laid-out plans for this hobby's continuity. I have begun a 5-year residency program in Neurosurgery which is clearly not compatible, time-wise, with programming.

I gave in all my passion for developing, and you gave me back your loyalty and trust, even when I did not deserve that much. Now it is the time for payback. I release all my present and past work as Open Source software, in the hope some talented developer will continue maintaining and expanding my vision of a modern, sleek forum software. The intrinsic flexibility of MyBB is the true hidden gem of an otherwise outdated codebase; I do hope the project can continue and be updated complying to the latest coding standards.

I hereby thank Euan, kawaii, andrewjs18, Ben, Matt, Omar G., effone, Eric J., Devilshakerz, Wildcard, JordanMussi and all the other team members I have had the opportunity to work with when I was a MyBB team member. I thank Tomm M, my mentor, who inspired me to pick up coding with his piece-of-art plugins. And finally, I thank all of you MyBBoost subscribers who have helped me getting through my toughest university years economically.

Yours sincerely, Filippo

New theme (again)!

I'm fairly excited because today the theme I'm working on since June has finally reached an acceptable state of completeness. So yeah, here it is at last!

It has been quite tedious because I focused onto giving MyBBoost both simplicity and usability and building it from the MyBB default theme has proven to be... time consuming. But I'm confident you'll find it far better than the old one.

What's more important, a lot of elements have joined the responsiveness party. It's quite a pleasure browsing the site from a mobile phone and surely not a pain like back in the old days.

Beware: many things are yet to be themed. Yes, it's like 70% complete and compared to the previous one (I'd give it a 30%) it feels like a giant leap. However, some things still need to be edited and I'm too lazy/busy to perform the changes at the moment. You can help me finding weird, unthemed parts by posting a new thread in the feedbacks zone. Screenshots are much appreciated, and given MyBBoost now runs on MyDropzone, you can quickly upload them to Imgur.com seamlessly.

I decided to remove SCEditor because... it sucks. I'm going to replace it with a solid alternative sooner or later.

Besides giving MyBBoost a new look, I've been working on a lot of plugins recently. Flyover hasn't received an update for half a year by now, but a crucial bug has been patched in the last few days and more are inevitably to come, given ThunderBoard is kicking in furiously (and it seems like Vanilla JavaScript does not like to work with it). Talking about this killer feature – which should be appreciated more with the new theme, given it's more comprehensible to navigate – it has received an important update too which I'm going to release soon as beta 2 to the public.

MyChat has been one of the most appreciated news of the last quarter, but it's still far from being stable enough. I've updated some things in the past days to let it be at least working as well as it could do with ThunderBoard, as it is one of the most influencing plugins currently installed on the board. No ETAs still, also I'm still in my finals until the 27th July so dev things are going to be oozy for another week at least.

Last but not least, MyDropzone has been developed from scratch too and it's available as a private beta testing here on MyBBoost. Just give it a shot by uploading whatever you want in the testing zone and firing a new thread/post! If you don't know how it works, a tooltip should fire up giving you a hint. Just click on the paperclip icon when you create/edit a new thread or reply, and drag/drop your files as you go. Imgur.com support is one of the most exciting features I've been focusing at, so don't hesitate to upload your screenshots as you try the plugin!

The Dropzone is fantastic! I like how attaching an image will automatically upload it to Imgur, and will post it in the message. Awesome work @Shade

EDIT: I found a bug when trying to edit my birthdate in the User Control Panel.
