Farewell

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I announce that I cease all development and activity in the programming universe indefinitely. My career has reached the turning point I was not expecting for at least another year, leaving me highly off guard and without laid-out plans for this hobby's continuity. I have begun a 5-year residency program in Neurosurgery which is clearly not compatible, time-wise, with programming.

I gave in all my passion for developing, and you gave me back your loyalty and trust, even when I did not deserve that much. Now it is the time for payback. I release all my present and past work as Open Source software, in the hope some talented developer will continue maintaining and expanding my vision of a modern, sleek forum software. The intrinsic flexibility of MyBB is the true hidden gem of an otherwise outdated codebase; I do hope the project can continue and be updated complying to the latest coding standards.

I hereby thank Euan, kawaii, andrewjs18, Ben, Matt, Omar G., effone, Eric J., Devilshakerz, Wildcard, JordanMussi and all the other team members I have had the opportunity to work with when I was a MyBB team member. I thank Tomm M, my mentor, who inspired me to pick up coding with his piece-of-art plugins. And finally, I thank all of you MyBBoost subscribers who have helped me getting through my toughest university years economically.

Yours sincerely, Filippo

Ignore that message as its only showed to developers, not the actual users. Would you mind downloading the file /inc/plugins/Flyover/error_log.txt? It should be as I have tried accessing with Facebook on your board using a debug command, generating a more detailed bug report.

Sorry for this inconvenience. Unfortunately, Facebook is one of those providers which are usually a total PAIN when it comes to integration. They require so many informations you always end up forgetting something, and they give very little informations on errors on their behalf its so difficult to know what exactly goes wrong.

In the meantime, you can also try to download MyFacebook Connect and configure a separate application for that plugin (which is also mine). It's unlikely that'll work, because this seems like a port 443 error, but maybe the SDK must be updated. Since Flyover relies on HybridAuth, an application I did not develop, it may contain broken things. However, if that feels too much boring or complicated, just relax and wait till I try to figure out what the problem is :)

I will ignore that message for developers from now on.

It's ok, it's not your fault. Facebook likes to make things difficult, that's for sure. It took me forever to understand their unclear and complicated instructions.

error_log.txt is attached.

I also contacted my hosting provider to make sure that port 443 is open. Should hear back from them on the status of that in a day or two.

Sorry, download it again please (I did not authorize the app whilst testing yesterday, now I did).

However, it seems like you did not configure properly the Facebook application, as it does not tell me to "Authorize" but "Play". Maybe you configured something wrong. May I ask you to add me as an administrator of your Facebook application? I will send you a PM with my Facebook account's URL.

Sure thing. New bug report attached.

I'd be happy to add you as an administrator. Just PM me that link you mentioned.

Here's what my hosting provider said about port 443:

"Port 443 is already enabled on your hosting, unless you are referring to the incoming SSL in which you will need to install your own SSL certificate. Our available options are here:
https://www.name.com/ssl"

So the question is, do I need to install my own SSL certificate?
Shade 17 Nov 2015

No, the certificate is not needed (it is included in the package). Sorry to bother you again but I need the error_log.txt, not a report generated by Flyover. I was refering to that file in my last post.

Don't worry. You helping me is not bothering me! :)

My mistake. Here you go, the correct error log is attached.

I got you a coffee to say thanks for putting all this extra time into helping me set this up.

I did some tests and the application should have been set up correctly. I am searching for some possible causes, I will send you details of my researches in the following days. Again, this feels like a bit embarrassing but I would like to apologize for the multiple inconveniences you are experiencing.

You may try MyFacebook Connect in the meantime (that'll help me understand if it's an error of Flyover itself or if its the SDK that has to be updated).
