Farewell

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I announce that I cease all development and activity in the programming universe indefinitely. My career has reached the turning point I was not expecting for at least another year, leaving me highly off guard and without laid-out plans for this hobby's continuity. I have begun a 5-year residency program in Neurosurgery which is clearly not compatible, time-wise, with programming.

I gave in all my passion for developing, and you gave me back your loyalty and trust, even when I did not deserve that much. Now it is the time for payback. I release all my present and past work as Open Source software, in the hope some talented developer will continue maintaining and expanding my vision of a modern, sleek forum software. The intrinsic flexibility of MyBB is the true hidden gem of an otherwise outdated codebase; I do hope the project can continue and be updated complying to the latest coding standards.

I hereby thank Euan, kawaii, andrewjs18, Ben, Matt, Omar G., effone, Eric J., Devilshakerz, Wildcard, JordanMussi and all the other team members I have had the opportunity to work with when I was a MyBB team member. I thank Tomm M, my mentor, who inspired me to pick up coding with his piece-of-art plugins. And finally, I thank all of you MyBBoost subscribers who have helped me getting through my toughest university years economically.

Yours sincerely, Filippo

Non-secure avatar link when importing user's Facebook photo

Hey there Shade,

Great plugins, and awesome site you've got set up here! One issue I've noticed with importing a user's photo from Facebook is if your site uses HTTPS, the image is linked via unsecure protocol and the browser gives a warning. I haven't tried importing from Twitter/Google+, but those potentially may do the same thing as well.

Just thought I'd post this here in case you weren't aware. FB does use secure images, though it's only redirected to HTTPS if you try to view the avatar in your browser (it gets redirected).

Thank you @Tecca for your contribution. I have a MFC restyle in mind so this will help to build the next major version.

@Shade are you planning on implementing this function or, could you give a tip which file to modify to set the url to https instad of http for the new users? I can modify the old users' http via MySQL, but I'd rather have it use https from now on for new users.

My regards!
Greg

Hi @Grzeniu, theoretically the latest version should already format avatars to use the HTTPS secure protocol. Can you provide your board URL where I can see eventual issues? Thank you.

Hello @Shade Thank you for the quick reply! My apologies - I have version 3.1 installed. For some reason when I checked if I have the up-to-date version, I mistakenly saw that I have 3.2 - probably I have looked at some other plugin version, whereas I have the 3.1.

Thus, I will update to 3.2 and the issue will be gone.

Thank you for help and for maintaining such a fine plugin, my regards!

I have just checked and 3.2 fixes the issue, while 3.1 is affected. I would suggest you to use the current GitHub version as it includes a fix reported some time ago which may affect you too.
