Farewell

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I announce that I cease all development and activity in the programming universe indefinitely. My career has reached the turning point I was not expecting for at least another year, leaving me highly off guard and without laid-out plans for this hobby's continuity. I have begun a 5-year residency program in Neurosurgery which is clearly not compatible, time-wise, with programming.

I gave in all my passion for developing, and you gave me back your loyalty and trust, even when I did not deserve that much. Now it is the time for payback. I release all my present and past work as Open Source software, in the hope some talented developer will continue maintaining and expanding my vision of a modern, sleek forum software. The intrinsic flexibility of MyBB is the true hidden gem of an otherwise outdated codebase; I do hope the project can continue and be updated complying to the latest coding standards.

I hereby thank Euan, kawaii, andrewjs18, Ben, Matt, Omar G., effone, Eric J., Devilshakerz, Wildcard, JordanMussi and all the other team members I have had the opportunity to work with when I was a MyBB team member. I thank Tomm M, my mentor, who inspired me to pick up coding with his piece-of-art plugins. And finally, I thank all of you MyBBoost subscribers who have helped me getting through my toughest university years economically.

Yours sincerely, Filippo

Issue with Flyover

This issue is marked as solved
I've recently installed Flyover in my forum, but every time I click on one of the social media buttons, it sends me to an error page with this message:

QuoteAn error occurred trying to accomplish your request. A bug report has been generated and it's available in the administration panel. If you are not an administrator, contact one as soon as possible and tell him you have landed on this page. You may also try logging in once again and see if it was just a temporary error. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Port 443 is open, so I have no idea what may be causing this. You can see for yourself at http://sheikav.com/foro/member.php?action=register

Thanks!

Hi Watomsk,
thank you for purchasing Flyover. I have tried to register through Steam and the operation has gone successful for me (I am filippo.shade). Would you mind opening the Flyover page in your Admin Control Panel, download some reports in the Bug reports section and post them here as attachments? I will investigate, because most probably there's a misconfiguration error for some specific providers.

Also, you are using the passwordless and emailless option: I would recommend changing the PM which is delivered to new members, which says you have generated a new password (but since the account is passwordless there's no actual password).

Thank you Shade,

I've attached a zip file (the forum won't let me upload the xml files individually) with the four errors that keep appearing in the log.

Thanks for letting me know about the email.

Thank you. You seem to miss the crucial part: adding the id and the secret tokens. For some providers it's as easy as enabling the module from Flyover's page, like Steam and AOL; but the majority of the services require that you set up an application on their websites which generates two or three alphanumeric tokens known as id, secret and key (which is optional). Those are used by Flyover to communicate with the external services, and they let the external services know that your website is authenticated through that particular application.

I haven't included anything like a specific step-by-step guide for every provider, because Flyover uses HybridAuth as the Auth Library. You can reach the instructions for every provider at the following link: http://hybridauth.github.io/hybridauth/userguide.html

Just click on the desired provider and follow the instructions on how to create the application.

When you are done, copy and paste the id and the secret tokens in the respective fields of that particular Flyover's module.

I guess what tokens have you added to the module since they are required for the module to be used; if you don't include any tokens during the setup of, let's say, Facebook (which requires id and secret), Flyover should throw an error.

By the way, you can also refer to the documentation provided in Flyover's "Documentation" tab.

Thanks for the response, I was pretty confused by your instructions at first because I couldn't find the settings for the modules. I've used MyFacebook Connect before and I thought it was strange that Flyover never asked me for the ID and secret tokens during the configuration. I finally figured out why.

I had been using the AdminCP template Whisper, but it seems to have a bug where it won't display the settings for each module of Flyover. I switched back to the default MyBB template and now it shows the settings for the modules. To better illustrate this, here is what it looks like to me in Whisper:

And here is what it looks like with the default template:

You can see why I missed the tokens and other settings. I assume Whisper has a bug where it won't load the rest of the settings. I still have to create the applications and add the tokens for each module, but that is easy enough.

Thanks!

Yay, sorry. That's a known issue which I will resolve in the future for Whisper.

I have fixed the issue with Whisper FYI.
