Farewell

Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I announce that I cease all development and activity in the programming universe indefinitely. My career has reached the turning point I was not expecting for at least another year, leaving me highly off guard and without laid-out plans for this hobby's continuity. I have begun a 5-year residency program in Neurosurgery which is clearly not compatible, time-wise, with programming.

I gave in all my passion for developing, and you gave me back your loyalty and trust, even when I did not deserve that much. Now it is the time for payback. I release all my present and past work as Open Source software, in the hope some talented developer will continue maintaining and expanding my vision of a modern, sleek forum software. The intrinsic flexibility of MyBB is the true hidden gem of an otherwise outdated codebase; I do hope the project can continue and be updated complying to the latest coding standards.

I hereby thank Euan, kawaii, andrewjs18, Ben, Matt, Omar G., effone, Eric J., Devilshakerz, Wildcard, JordanMussi and all the other team members I have had the opportunity to work with when I was a MyBB team member. I thank Tomm M, my mentor, who inspired me to pick up coding with his piece-of-art plugins. And finally, I thank all of you MyBBoost subscribers who have helped me getting through my toughest university years economically.

Yours sincerely, Filippo

Help fight COVID-19: March and April income is donated to Bergamo hospital ICUs

COronaVIrus Disease 19, known as COVID-19, is putting a strain to National Health Systems all around the world and causing an unprecedented global crisis. Italy, my beloved birthplace, is struggling with the highest death toll: we simply do not have enough Intensive Care Unit beds and resources, especially in Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto regions. We are progressively expanding our ICUs capacity, but as of today, many patients have to be moved to other regions or even other countries, such as Germany.

We have been the very first western country to be affected by the virus spreading, so we are weeks ahead of other countries in terms of contagions. If we do not act now, thousands of lives will be at risk in the upcoming weeks. Therefore, here's the new temporary policy:

KEYCAP 1 you purchase anything valuable on the website

KEYCAP 2 every Saturday I donate the weekly income to Bergamo's hospital

I have decided to donate all the incoming funds from MyBBoost purchases collected from 1 March to 31 April 2020 to this GoFundMe campaign which devolves money to the Bergamo province, one of the critically affected areas. The campaign is listed on the official website of Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo, and it is therefore trustworthy. If you want, you can also make a donation yourself directly.

Every Saturday starting from 28 March I will post a screenshot of both the weekly MyBBoost income and the subsequent donation invoice (in italian, hope you understand). The weekly amount is rounded up to the nearest whole number.

You can make a difference and save lives. Thank you.

A huge "thank you" to all of you who purchased something in the last 2 months and helped Italy fight COVID-19, and particularly one of the most hit cities. A total of 544€ plus 100€ of my own have been donated to Bergamo's hospital. It isn't much, but it's the best me and you could do!
